Concrete power trowel is also named as power trowel machine, troweling concrete machine, concrete finisher machine or concrete trowel machine, it is a finishing machinery used in concrete work to create a smooth, dense, and level surface after the concrete has been poured and set enough to support the machine.

Let's think of power trowel as a "mechanized craftsman." Traditionally, workers would squat and manually finish large areas of concrete with a hand finishing trowel. This was not only extremely labor-intensive and inefficient, but also difficult to ensure overall smoothness. The advent of concrete power trowel has completely changed this situation.

Main Components of power trowel

1. Engine/Motor: Provides the power source. Walk behind power trowel often use small-displacement gasoline engines or lithium battery while ride on power trowel are commonly use high-powered gasoline engine or sometime diesel engine. All above power source offering greater power and greater mobility.

2. Transmission: This includes a reduction gearbox and gears, reducing the high engine speed to the required operating speed for the power trowel blade and power trowel pan.

3. Operating Handle: Typically an adjustable handle bar or joystick, it controls the machine's movement and steering.

4. Power Trowel Blade & Power Trowel Pan: This is the working component that directly contacts the concrete. Typically made of high-strength manganese steel, it is mounted on the spiders. Different blade are used depending on the construction phase.

5. Main Frame / Guard Ring: A metal ring installed around the base of the machine to protect the operator from splashing concrete and prevent the machine from accidentally striking obstacles.

Main types of power trowel

Walk behind power trowel: The most common type, has only one trowel spider. It has a simple structure and flexible operation, and is suitable for most common floors. According to the size of walk behind power trowel, there are 24'', 30'' and 36''.

Ride on power trowel: The operator sits on the machine and drives it. There are two parallel trowel spiders, which provide a larger working width and higher efficiency. It is especially suitable for the construction of ultra-large floor areas. The flatness is easier to control, and the efficiency and work quality are at the top level. According to the distribution direction of the engine and seats, it is divided into horizontal and longitudinal types. In terms of size, there are 36'' and 46''.

What does a power trowel do

Power trowel is a finishing machine used in concrete work to create a smooth, dense, and level surface after the concrete has been poured and set enough to support the machine.

Here's what it does for concrete:

1. Levels concrete surface – Helps flatten and correct minor imperfections or uneven spots.

2. Compacts concrete surface – Densifies the top layer, which improves durability and reduces dusting.

3. Improves finish – Can produce a smooth, hard finish or even a polished look depending on how long it's run.

4. Increases strength – By compressing the surface, it reduces porosity, making the concrete more resistant to wear, water, and chemicals.

In short: power trowel turns rough, freshly placed concrete into a strong, flat, and professional-looking floor.
